LC Valley
It’s another sunny day in the LC Valley. After lattes with friends at a local coffee shop you drive to the levee for a stroll. As you walk along the paved trails, the Snake River on your right and duck ponds on your left, you pass others out enjoying the nice morning. Bicyclists nod and joggers wave as they pass. Sparrows chirp from the branches of hawthorns, mountain ash, oak, and maple trees as a flock of geese fly overhead. In the river next to you a boat waits to pull up a skier as a tour boat heads south into Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America.
Its trek reminds you of a recent whitewater rafting excursion on the Salmon River. You lick your lips, remembering the spray of water on your face and hands. You can still feel the raft rise then dip as it jostled up and down over class II, III, and IV rapids.
Finishing your walk you return to your car, thankful there will be no traffic jams to contend with. After browsing through several downtown shops, you stand in the shade of one of the many trees that line downtown Lewiston and watch children play around the bronze water statue. Returning to your car, you smile that there is no parking fee.

A quick trip to the Lewis Clark State College Library and you find the books you wanted as you plan to decorate your new Lewiston, Idaho home. Since moving to the LC Valley you have been surprised by not just the reasonably priced real estate, but also the low cost of living. But the real boon has been the relatively mild winters, variety of natural beauty, and abundance of recreational activities.
Just a short drive from your home in Lewiston, Idaho you can find yourself winding along either the Clearwater or Snake Rivers, hiking through woods on Craig Mountain, fishing on Dworshak Reservoir, searching for ancient petroglyphs on the rocks in Hells Canyon, or enjoying the ever-changing wheat and lentil fields of the Palouse.
But tonight you will bar-b-que on your deck, enjoying the view of rolling hills, good friends, a local wine, the call of California quail, and the clear, unobstructed view of sparkling stars overhead.
